Subway Around New York City.

Using the train as your main way for getting around New York City may be a daunting at first, but once your learn the basics, travelling will be easy breezy.

Taking the NYC subway is the cheapest and fastest mode of transportation. 

Get an unlimited weekly metro card and you are ready to explore the hustle and bustle of New York City (NYC).

There are 5 boroughs that make up NYC: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island.

While each borough has their own popular spots and restaurants to visit, Manhattan and Brooklyn are the 2 most go to boroughs that tourist visit.

Each boroughs are interconnected by subways lines for ease of travel.

NYC Subway

The NYC subways are an arena for free entertainment. There is never dull moment on the subway platforms and trains. 42nd Street Time Square Subway station is the main hub for entertainers.

You will always be entertained by newyorkers either singing, dancing or playing an instrument. For most of them, showcasing their talent for a tip on the subways is their main source of income.

Times Square is the heart of NYC. It’s the hub for shopping, tourist attractions, entertainment, restaurants and the world’s busiest pedestrian area.

You will always find a number funny characters in their costumes parading the streets of Times Square hoping for you to pay in an exchange for a picture with them.

The Vessel in NYC is another top tourist attraction. 

The vase-shaped spiral staircase takes you to the top for a spectacular view of the Hudson yard surroundings.

The Vessel is open for you to explore between 10 am to 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased on their website in advance. Children under 5 years old go free.

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most iconic tourist attractions in New York City.

The Brooklyn Bridge is free, ideal for the entire family and just a subway ride away.

Take the 4, 5, or 6 trains to the Brooklyn Bridge/Borough Hall train station. The Brooklyn Bridge is right across the street from the subway station.

For direction visit Google maps for other directions on how to get there using other subway lines. 

The bridge spans from Manhattan to Downtown Brooklyn. It takes about 1 hour casual walk to cross the bridge, but the walk is worth it.

The views of NYC skyline is the most spectacular view you will ever experience.

Central Park is one of the most famous park in the world. It is centrally located in Manhattan. If you are a nature lover, looking for somewhere to relax, learn some history, go for a jog, biking, take a bite or boat ride across the lake, then Central park’s 484 acres land space is your ideal place.

The Oculus WTC Transportation Hub.

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub in Lower Manhattan is not just a train station, but the 2 story artistic landmark also offers a place for you to shop and grab a bite from its many selection of stores and restaurants.

The Hub’s Oculus is a masterpiece and was designed by the Spanish Architect, Santiago Calatrava. 

The architect’s white metal rib structure is said to symbolize a dove taking off.

This dove like structure represents peace in the area where the tragic 911 terrorist attack occurred.

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Church

If you need a church to worship, then take a visit to the The Brooklyn Tabernacle Church and their Grammy and Dove Award Winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

They have 2 services on Sundays starting at 9 am and Prayer meetings on Tuesdays at 7 pm.

The mega church is ran by Pastor Cymbala and his wife Carol, who directs the choir.

Since it’s a huge church, being on-time will help you secure a seat inside.

The food culture of NYC is a reflection of the most culturally diverse city in the world.

New York City gives you many options when it comes to you having a good dining experience. NYC is not a cheap place to live, but there are so  many restaurants with different cuisines to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. Below are 3 of my favorite spots to grab a bite.

Dumpling Man   located in Manhattan NYC is a small restaurant that specializes in a variety of different flavor filled dumplings, including vegetarian.

It’s a small restaurant with very limited seating. 

The dumplings are made onsite and from scratch.  You can order them steamed or pan seared. Either ways, they are delicious.

Junior’s Restaurant  is one of the most iconic restaurants in New York City.

There are 2 known locations in NYC. One in Brooklyn and the other in Manhattan close to Times Square.

The restaurant serves menu items for breakfast lunch and supper. 

They are famously known for their wide selection of cheesecakes. I have tried everyone of their different cheesecakes. But, my favorite is the Carrot Cake Cheesecake.

Brother Jimmy’s  BBQ Restaurant  in Manhattan has the most unique decor and unusual and rustic way of presenting the food  to their customers.

Most menu items are served on a metal tray lined with grease paper.

They are well known for their BBQ Ribs. The food will take you to a cross between soul and southern cuisines.

In conclusion, New York City is packed with things to do and places to see. You will have to take several vacations to fully explore the culture and lifestyle of NYC. 

There are many iconic  attractions in NYC . Some require money to enjoy them and can become expensive. But there are a number of attractions that you can enjoy for free or cheap.
