Affordable Valentine’s Day Gifts For Greedy Foodies.

Posted on February 4, 2023February 7, 2025 by Kevin Foodie

Expressions of love do not have to be expensive and stressful. If you or someone you know is a Gluttonous Foodie who enjoys anything food related, then this blog is for you’ll. In this post, I will share some of the most affordable Valentine’s Day gifts for the greedy foodies in your life.

Before you scroll down, let’s learn a bit about Valentine’s Day.

How Did Valentine’s Day Come About?

Valentine’s Day, also known as the “Day of Love,” is a worldwide holiday observed on February 14th in which expressions of love and gifts are exchanged between loved ones. But where did this custom originate?

According to the History article, Valentine’s Day can be traced back to ancient Rome. At the time, February 15th was a Roman holiday honoring the fertility god Lupercus.

On this day, a goat and a dog were sacrificed, and women waited in line to be whipped with the animals’ hides.

Declaration of Valentine’s Day

At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I declared February 14th as St. Valentine’s Day in an effort to “Christianize” the holiday.

This was done in memory of a Christian martyr who was killed during the reign of the Roman Empire.

As time passed, the holiday became more about romantic love and less about religious devotion.

The Commercialization of Valentine’s Day

The holiday gradually became less about religion and more about romantic love.

The first surviving valentine is a poem written by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife in 1415 while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London after the Battle of Agincourt.

Over the centuries, many other valentines have been written, ranging from sonnets to love letters.

By the nineteenth century, Valentines had become commercialized, with manufacturers producing paper cards with verses and images. (History)

Despite its mysterious history and commercialization over the years, Valentine’s Day is still a great time to express how much you love and care through giving.
