When life gives you lemons, don’t just juice them to make lemonade, but use every part to make lemon water and this healthy detox drink.
Lemons are sour, but are are one of the most powerful natural detoxifying fruits known to mankind. In this blog I will be sharing with you my 3 ingredients drink i have been drinking for the last 2 years to help me detox.
Let's Talk Lemon Juice and Peel Detox
Lemons are rich in citric acid, vitamin c, and polyphenols. One of the main lemon polyphenols (LLP) is called the Eriocitrin. This yellow water-soluble antioxidant compound is found in abundance in the juice and peels lemons (NIH).
The National Institute Of Health (NIH) conducted a study to show the effects of lifelong effects of LLP on ageing and gut microorganisms.
This study suggests and concludes as we get older our skin and GI tract age. Regularly including Lemon Polyphenols in our diet may potentially have anti-aging effects not only on our over all health, but also on our intestinal/gut environment.
Studies have shown that positive changes in our gut microbiome of our GI tract may help promote weight loss.
The Harvard School Of Public Health describes microbiome as the coexistence of both good and potentially harmful bacteria or microbes in your gut.
When there is a balance between the good and bad microbes, there is no problem. However, environmental factors and one’s diet can either promote good health or put you at risk for diseases.
In addition to a healthy diet that consist of daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, detoxing is a great way to cleanse and rejuvinate your digestive system and promote healthy gut mirobiome.
A healthy gut microbiome come with many health benefits such as: healthy immune system, removal of toxic substances from the gut, synthesis of certain vitamins and minerals and overall feeling of good health.
Let's Talk The Health Benefits of Ginger
Ginger is one of the most powerful spice that is used across different cultures in cooking and for medicinal purposes. Ginger root come from the same family as turmeric and cardamon. In addition, honey is a rich source of phenols and other antioxidants that may help promote heart health.
According to the author, the 3 major active ingredients in ginger are: gingerols, shogoals, and paradol.
In addition, one of the metabolites of gingersol have shown to accumulate in the gastrointestinal tract and promote anti-inflammatory and antibacterial/viral effects, soothe the digestive tract, and alleviate nausea.
Moreover, some studies have shown promising health benefits of the intake of 1 g/day of ginger with a sensible diet, for lowering the risk of high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, cancer, and those previously mentioned.
What about Honey?
Honey is not only a natural sweetener, but has a number of health benefits. Each variety of honey has a distinctive taste and color.
1 tablespoon of honey contains 17 g of sugar ( fructose, sucrose, maltose and glucose).
According to Healthline honey may help to lower tryglycerides and bad cholesterols when used in place of table sugar as a sweetener.
In addition, the antioxidant properties of honey can also be beneficial in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Ginger Is Great For Your Digestive System.
Lemon Water Is Refreshing and Detoxifies the Liver.

I love this post. Will definitely try. I already add a lemon wedge to my water all the time and drink a 2-3 glasses of lemon water a day. I look forward to adding the ginger. Will likely back off the amount of honey.
Looks good!!!
I love lemon ginger water! I also add a dash of cayenne pepper when I make it!
It’s true that having a good balance between your mmicrobiome, but detoxing is nothing but a marketing scam. If you want to change your microbiome then work on your diet, if you want to detox, then just drink plenty of water and cut down on alcohol so your liver and kidneys can do what they’re designed to do
I agree with you Unwanted Life. A healthy diet and drinking water is always important. I am not persuading any reader to purchase a pill 💊 or supplement. I believe that lemons 🍋 and the ingredients are a good way to detoxify your liver, cleanse and reset your GI tract.
I love this. I try and have warm water with lemon in the morning — yes, even before coffee! — and I’ve noticed an improvement in terms of how I feel. And I always for the ginger-honey route when I feel a cold coming on. Thanks for sharing this drink so I can get all three ingredients in one shot!

At which point do I add the honey and how much honey?
I am sorry that my recipe was not clear. I have updated the recipe. The honey is added at the end right before the detox drink is stored in the refrigerator.
So can you eat anything at all while doing the detox?
Like protein drinks or salad etc
Terry, I personally do not include any food. This detox is just for 48 hrs and should not be for the long term. If you are going to use this detox method for longer, you may want to eat clean: fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains. I am currently drinking this detox drink each morning and before bed.
