Instructions
Let's Prepare the Hot Italian Sausage
- I like the Jasonsonville Hot Italian Sausage since it contains no preservatives or additives, unlike other sausages I have purchased in the past. The company assures its customers that they use all-natural ingredients

- Empty the hot Italian sausage Into a mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper, complete seasoning, dried thyme, and garlic powder. Mix well and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Remove from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before starting your dinner.

- On a cutting board, dice the onions, quarter each cherry tomato, and roughly slice the scallions.

Let's Cook The Pasta
- In a saucepan, add salt to 10 cups water and bring to a boil. The packaging instructs the customers to cook the penne rigate pasta for 10 to 12 minutes. However, we will cook for a shorter time.
- Cook pasta for 7 minutes in salted boiling water or until aldente (soft to the touch). You don't want to fully cook the pasta. They will be further cooked with spicy sausage. Nobody likes soggy penne pasta. You may also use the Whole Grain Penne Rigate Pasta for a healthier alternative.

Time To Cook The Hot Italian Sausage
- While the pasta is being cooked. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a cast iron skillet pan for 1 minute. Cook the seasoned Italian sausage until fully browned and caramelized.
- Combine the thawed frozen mixed vegetables with the cooked sausage. Stir thoroughly and continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes.
- To the veggie sausage mixture, combine the diced tomatoes, onion, BBQ sauce, and scallion. Cook for an additional 3 minutes.I implore you to try this Stubbs BBQ Sauce. I came across this brand of BBQ sauce. I love that there are no preservatives or additives. It looks and tastes like a good homemade BBQ sauce. It adds a unique layer of flavor to this pasta dish.
- Remove aldente pasta from the flame and pour into a colander to drain. Dump the pasta into the sausage mixture and combine with a wooden spoon. Allow the Penne Rigate Pasta and Italian sausage to cook together for an additional 3 minutes, stirring often.
- Serve warm with a side of fresh salad. This meal serves approximately 5 to 6 people.
