Where Is Lauderdale-By-The-Sea?
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is in Broward County South Florida, nestled between Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach.
In comparison to South Beach, this quite charming sea side town is a very family-friendly destination ideal for anyone looking to unwind and relax from the hustles and bustles. Furthermore, if you are a beach lover and foodie, then this is the vacation spot for you.
Lauderdale by the Sea sits along side the Atlantic Ocean. It is not as the beautiful as the white sand beaches in Jamaica or Aruba, but you will enjoy long hours on the beach swimming, relaxing in the sun or under an umbrella basking in the cool sea breeze.
Whether you’re seeking relaxation, fun adventure, wonderful dining experiences, vacationing here will leave you cleansed from all the stress and worries of life and amazing memories.
History Of Lauderdale By The Sea.
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea shares interesting historical information about its existence. I discovered that this seaside community would not be what it is now if it was not for the two people showcased below.
Melvin I. Anglin, the first mayor of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, was instrumental in creating the town’s identity. He and his wife, Sara, contributed significantly to its early growth.
Melvin Anglin was also a renowned local businessman, envisioned a vibrant seaside community and worked relentlessly to promote it.
In the 1920s, he bought one mile of Florida beach, with Sara, began developing and promoting the town as a gorgeous coastal getaway.
How Did Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Get Its Name?
The name “Lauderdale-by-the-Sea” was chosen to emphasize its proximity to Fort Lauderdale while also showcasing its distinct coastal appeal.
Under Melvin’s leadership, the town rose in prominence, gaining both visitors and residents lured to its beautiful beaches.
Today, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a testament and tribute to the Anglins’ vision and commitment to providing a memorable experience for everyone who visits.
In honor of the first Mayor, the town’s beachy area was named Melvin I. Anglin Square.

Water Activities On Lauderdale By The Sea Beach
The beach at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea delivers an unforgettable marine excursion.
Go for a swim in the clear sea water, explore the coral reefs by scuba diving and snorkeling, paddle boarding or kayaking, enjoy boat rides, or parasailing. Some visitors were often observed going out enjoying spear fishing.
Aside from all of the exciting water activities, one of my favorite aspects of the beach is that the water was waist deep several feet out into the sea. This means that even if you cannot swim, you can still have a good time in the water.
What Is The Beach Like In Lauderdale-By-The-Sea?
The first day at the beach, the sea was tranquil and relaxing. However, the next day, I am not sure what was going on in the waters, but the waves turned a little rough, but that did not take away from having a good vibe on the beach.
Fortunately, the apartment I rented offered free beach chairs, umbrellas, and paddle boards on a first-come, first-served basis.
Despite the fact that they were rusted and old, they added to the enjoyment of relaxing by the beach.

Restaurants To Eat in Lauderdale-BY-THE-SEA.
Let us take you on a “full-mi-belly” journey across restaurants to eat in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

I implore you to visit these eateries at least twice to explore their extensive menu options. Here are some of the restaurants with bars that I believe you will appreciate.
If you have been reading my travel blogs, you will know that I love dining by the beach or any body of water.
It provides the most relaxing and comfortable dining experience. Aruba Beach Cafe is one of the beach front eateries in Lauderdale-By-The Sea. The ambiance evokes a beachy Caribbean feel.
Unfortunately, the temperature ranged from 97 to 104° F on this particular day, and the humidity made things even more uncomfortable.
Because of the heat, the dining area on the sand next to the beach was not an option. However, the restaurant’s wall to wall windows provided stunning picturesque views of the beach and ocean, adding to the overall vibes of the atmosphere.
What Can I Eat At Aruba Beach Cafe?
I love a good quesadilla. I have had many Seafood Quesadilla in the past, but this one I ordered at Aruba Beach Cafe took the trophy for having loads of whole shrimps inside. Furthermore, the tacos were very crispy and tasty.
The pineapple beef burger with fries was a hit. To wash it down, try their Aruba Ariba drinks. It is a concoction of refreshing ingredients.
The cocktail is made with passion fruit, orange juice, creme banana, cranberry, rum, and vodka. To beat the sweltering heat, it appeared that the bar’s frozen margaritas were the top orders of the day.
Say What? Grilled Jamaican Jerk Wings!
These “Jamaican Jerk Wings” were ordered with the hopes of enjoying a piece of my culture.
I believe restaurants love to use the Jamaican name to market their menu item and sometimes they miss the true essence of Jamaican cuisine. I must mention that the wings were cooked thoroughly and I like the color on them.
To make it worse, they served it with ranch dressing which is not a tradition in my country.
However, they tasted similarly to chicken wings seasoned with salt and pepper and baked in the oven. But I understand the demographic that they serve. Authentic Jerk meats can be very spicy.
Furthermore, If restaurants are going to use the name Jamaican, I will suggest that the Cook or Chef take a trip to Jamaica and learn our food culture or reach out to me for my Jamaican Jerk Marinade Sauce Recipe.
If you love Mexican cuisine, then you will enjoy eating at this restaurant. TacoCraft Restaurant and Bar offers a modern retro vibes making it cozy and comfortable with warm welcoming staff.
Even though, I am not a big fan of Mexican food, I wanted to see what they are about. They offer a variety of tacos to choose from, including vegan.
What Should I Order at TACOCRAFT?
The Crispy Pork Tacos that include charred pineapple were recommended by the Waitress. However, it seems like they charred the pork instead.
Aside from the very over-cooked pork, the flavors were ok. Maybe the cook had a rough day. So do not let my experience dissuade you from trying it when you visit.
I enjoyed the Baja Fish Tacos. The crispy fried cod paired with the creamy avocado and crema was the perfect combination play on flavors and textures.
The taco platter also comes with a 8 ounces bowl of Mexican rice and red beans.
I love any dish or drinks with coconut. I never had this drinks before, but I ordered the Coconut Margarita because of the creme of coconut, lime juice and coconut flakes. To say the least, It was a refreshing $14 drink.
Harat’s By The Sea Restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. You will enjoy live musical performance as part of your eating experience.
If you simply want a drink, they have a walk-up bar accessible from the sidewalk.
The restaurant is reminiscent of a modern-day rendition of a traditional old country diner, complete with a sports bar.
The menu is broad with a variety of dish options ranging from seafood, plant-based, red meats and chicken, but I chose a Beef Burger, Fries, Beer, and a Passion Fruit Frozen Drink.
101 Ocean Bar and Restaurant in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea long line of the people waiting to get in grabbed my attention. I assume the food must be food must be good. At the time, the wait to get in was too long. I returned another day for a quick, small bite.
I ordered an appetizer and a beer because I wasn’t that hungry. The Coconut Crusted Shrimp was a smash. I wanted to return and try their Jerk Pork Tenderloin but didn’t have the chance.
New Holland Dragon Milk
The Food Explora in me enjoy all the restaurants I ate at in LBTS. However, New Holland Dragon Milk is probably my most memorable food experience.
Dragon Milk is unusual but intriguing, and the foodie in me is always eager for new culinary experiences.
This beer is what I describe as a cross between Dragon Stout and Guinness with a dash of sweetness, but taste even better than both.
The 101 Ocean menu defines the drink’s flavor as “notes of coffee and chocolate with sweet undertones of vanilla and oak.”
The various layers of flavor tones make this a one-of-a-kind drink. I could distinctly taste the vanilla, coffee, chocolate, and stout flavors.
It has a sweet pleasant flavor that had my tastebuds dancing and rejoicing. Hopefully, I can find this in the stores in my neighborhood.
It was the choice between Tik Tok Tea and Kung Fu Tea. Since I already had their bubble teas, I opted to give Tik Tok Tea a try.
This store is about 4 miles outside of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. The business is located in Time Square Plaza inside a nail salon that appears to be run by Asians.
Having bubble tea inside the nail salon, I believe, is a smart business idea. They simply need to come up with better marketing strategies.
I could tell by the 20 minutes the server took to make the 2 bubble teas that she does not make them very often. However, I gave her grace because she was an older lady.
The heat in Florida make bubble teas a refreshing commodity. I suppose the wait was worth it because the Strawberry Matcha Milk Buba Tea was delicious, but the Coconut Milk Bubble Tea was even more refreshing.
The $8 price per large size tea was higher than at other tea shops, but I guess the experience was worth it.
There are two ice-cream shops in the square. In my Pompano Beach, Florida blog, I recommended Kilwins Ice Cream Shop.
They also operate a store in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. They sell high-quality handcrafted ice cream, and you will definitely pay for this.
The price of one scoop of their ice cream might get you 1 to 2 containers or tubs of store-bought ice cream.
If you want a sugar rush, ask to sample their several flavored toffees, which are also made on-site.
There are many different flavors of ice cream to choose from. I am confident you will enjoy them all.
However, I recommend trying the New Orleans Praline Pecan Ice Cream and the Kilwins Turtle Cheesecake Ice-cream.
4145 By The Sea Inn and Suits is a cozy boutique-style guesthouse . There are about 4 to 5 units in the complex.
Apart from the standard free WIFI, air condition, and smart television, the Junior Suit apartment I reserved contained double beds, a walk-in closet, and a fully equipped kitchen (electric stove with oven, cookware and eating utensils, dining table, standard size refrigerator, microwave).
With all of these amenities, I spent very little time indoors because I spent the majority of my time outside.
The entire apartment is decorated with beach-themed decor. Most importantly, it was clean, comfy, and fully functional.
The instructions supplied by the owner were simple to follow and made self-check-in easy breezy.
One of my favorite aspects of 4145 By The Sea is that it is completely surrounded by trees, plants, and the attracted birds.
As you step outside the unit, you will feel as if you have entered a tropical paradise. This adds to the complex’s beauty and charm.
How Far Is The Beach and The Square In Lauderdale-By-The-Sea from 4145 By The Sea Inn & Suits?
On the other hand, to go grab a bite at one of the restaurants at the Melvin Anglin Square in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, it will take you approximately 7 to 10 minutes leisure walk.

You can fly into these two airports: Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) and Miami International Airport (MIA). However, the airlines and drive time to and from the airport to your booked destination may be the deciding factors.
It will take approximately 45 minutes drive from MIA. In comparison, it will only take you about 22 minutes from FLL to your booked destination.
